BJTU Law School Introduction

Beijing Jiaotong University law school, one of the earliest universities of science and engineering to enroll law major students, is a young power in the education system of law. As the predecessor of this university, Nanyang Public College offered politics courses, which contained constitutional law and international law. Afterwards, more courses were provided aiming to widen students’ knowledge and cultivate students to be well-rounded. Professor Xiang Zhejun who represented China to sue Japanese war criminals in the International Military Tribunal for the Far East had taught legal courses in our university. In 2011, on the basis of the department of law, Beijing Jiaotong University law school established.

 

Taking “proper size, reasonable structure, distinctive characteristics” as a guide, law school has built up an integrated teaching pattern of both taking the undergraduate education as the main body and focusing on the educational improvements of graduates. Our law school started to enroll nationwide law-majored undergraduates in 1995 and cultivate graduates in 2004, with the degree-conferring authorization both for Master of Law and Juris Master. In addition, in cooperation with School of Economics and Management and School of Traffic and Transportation, our school has enrolled doctoral students majoring in Economic law, Information Security and Confidentiality Law, and Transportation and Logistics Law. For undergraduates, research-oriented teaching method is put into all the key curriculums, and some courses are taught bilingually; for graduates, our law school aims to optimize the curriculum system setting, innovate cultivating formula, and set specialized courses concerning legal practice. We cooperate with courts, law firms and companies to provide internship opportunity for students, including Beijing First Intermediate People’s Court, Beijing Consumers Association, King & Capital Law Firm, Justice Bureau of Xicheng District, Legal Aid Center of Fengtai District, Haidian Lawyers Association, China Construction Second Engineering Bureau Ltd. and China Railway International Group.

 

BJTU Law School has outstanding faculties, including great masters with reputation and also some middle-aged scholars who are about to show talents in the field of law. There are 31 full-time teachers (6 professors, 17 associate professors and 8 lecturers), 11 assistants and a team of part-time mentors who possess rich experience of legal practice.

 

Currently, our school has 3 departments, respectively majoring in Public Law, Civil, Commercial and Economic Law, and International Law, and 5 research institutes which has achieved great academic success respectively concerning Information security and Confidentiality Law, Transportation and Logistics Law, Science and Technology Law, Labor and Economic Law, and judicial judgments.

 

Increased emphasis is now being placed on academic exchange. By means of inviting visiting professors, students and teaching staffs exchange and international seminar, our law school has built a good relationship with many universities in the US, Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, which provides great opportunities to widen academic view of students and promote international cooperation.
